The section, located in the connecting corridor between the Fantastico Moderno (Modern Fantastic) and the Science Fiction areas, accompanies our visitors in their discovery of the origins and evolution of fantasy and science fiction comics.
The set-up is created thanks to the collaboration with Gianni Milone, a collector of the historic comic books’ store Fumetteria Milone in Turin, who has kindly provided some items from his private collection.
On the journey from prestigious vintage issues to the most recent productions you are going to see the first comics with a fantastic theme – Little Nemo in Slumberland, by Winsor Mc Cay published by the US newspapers in the early 1900s, followed by the first comics with superheroes made in the USA – Buck Rogers, Brick Bradford, Flash Gordon – and finally meeting the giants such as Marvel and DC Comics.
The focus is on the fantastic Italian comic strip which exhibits, among others, the first publications of the Saturno contro la terra (Saturn against the Earth), forerunner of the Italian science fiction comics created and written by Cesare Zavattini, and the S.K.1 made by Guido Moroni Celsi.
